Board of Directors
NCP Annual Membership meeting was held on Tuesday, Sept 18, 2007. The members listed below were elected to the Board of Directors. In keeping with the democratic principles of credit union membership, each NCP member has one vote in this election, without regard for the amount of their deposits or the volume of their financial business.
Our Board of Directors is a group of volunteers that work without monetary compensation to ensure that the NCP mission - promoting thrift, economic revitalization and community development for Hampton Roads communities. .
Current Board Members
Below are Board Members for the 2008- 2009 term:Gilbert T. Bland – Board Chairman since 2005. Mr. Bland is Chairman of Tymark Enterprises and Tabansi, LLC. Tymark Enterprises is a Burger King franchise which began in 1985 and has owned and operated restaurants in Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. In 1995 Tabansi became a Pizza Hut franchise with restaurants located in Greensboro and Burlington, North Carolina and throughout Hampton Roads, Central Virginia and Southside Virginia. Mr. Bland has purchased or constructed over 65 restaurants and presently still owns over 14 restaurants and employs approximately 400 team members. He has six years of commercial lending experience with Continental Bank of Chicago and independence Bank of Chicago.
Maurice Jones – is the former Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, Dept. of the U.S. Treasury under the Clinton Administration. Mr. Jones holds Juris Doctor from University of Virginia School of Law and is currently publisher of the Virginian Pilot, the leading newspaper in the Hampton Roads area. Mr. Jones volunteers with numerous organizations that enhance the community.
Reginald Corinaldi - is President of Financial Security Management, Inc. a FINRA member firm. Mr. Corinaldi has been a Certified Financial Planner for nearly 20 years, providing financial advice to hundreds of families in the Hampton Roads area. He has led seminars and workshops on financial management and planning throughout the region.Maurice Slaughter – Mr. Slaughter has an MBA in Finance from Atlanta University and is currently the owner of four Harley-Davidson dealerships.
Paul Robinson – Mr. Robinson is a charter NCP Board member, retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and retired public and community college instructor. Mr. Robinson is a well known community representative.
Major Riddick – Mr. Riddick is the Founder and Principal of M.F.R. Enterprise, Inc. Norfolk, VA. He is a financial advisor to medium net worth individuals and small companies focusing on tax accounting and planning, business planning, feasibility studies, funds auditing and management, financial statement analysis and preparation, billing and collections, computer software training and implementation, real estate portfolio management and estate planning.
Dr. James Reeves – is a long time NCP Board member. Dr. Reeves is retired Chair of the Music Department at Norfolk State University and is active with many community organizations.
Anne Boone - Ms. Boone is a former banker and resident of the Berkley area in Norfolk. As a community activist, Ms. Boone serves as a member of Beacon Light Civic League, Campostella Civic League, is a founding member of the Southside Coalition and is the current president and curator of the Berkley Historical Society. Ms. Boone is also the owner Busy Hands Printing Services.
Delceno C. Miles - Ms. Miles is president and CEO of the Miles Agency, a Virginia Beach- based marketing and public relations firm. She is involved in numerous community activities, serving on a number of boards, including the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Aquarium, and Contemporary Center of the Arts. She is also the recipient of numerous honors and awards. The most recent recognition is a Community Service Award coming from the Portsmouth-Suffolk Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Wold Zemedkun - Wold Zemedkun, Ph. D., Professor of Finance at Norfolk State University has been reappointed to NCP Community Development Federal Credit Union board of directors. Professor Zemedkun was an original founding Board Member of NCP and served from 1996 to 2003. Since 1986 Professor Zemedkun has held numerous positions at NSU. During his tenure, he has developed many finance related courses and published a wealth of scholarly and intellectual publications. His educational background includes, earning his Ph.D. from University of Cincinnati, Ohio, his M.A. from Williams College in Massachusetts, Graduate Fellow at Cambridge University, England and an undergraduate degree at Haile Sellassie I University in Ethiopia. Professor Zemedkun has received many honors and fellowships and has served as President of the Global Awareness Society International.
Senator L. Louise Lucas - Virginia State Senator Lucas represents the 18th Senatorial District and is the second African American woman elected to serve in the Virginia Senate. Senator Lucas is a Portsmouth native and product of Portsmouth public schools and Norfolk State University. She owns several Portsmouth-based businesses. Victory Conference Center, LLC; Victory Conference Center Hotel, LLC both are business ventures involving community partnerships. Other business ventures include Lucas Transportation, LLC, Lucas Lodge,LLC and Southside Direct Care Provider, LLC all of which provide valuable community services.
Rev. James William Webb, PhD. - Pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, located in the Historic Section of Berkley in Norfolk, VA was appointed to NCP Community Development Federal Credit Union (NCP) board of directors in May 2009. Rev. Webb also known as “Pastor Jim” holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Government and Urban Studies from Windsor University, Los Angeles, California, a Master of Philosophy Degree from New College at Edinburg University, Scotland, a Doctor of Philosophy Degree and a Doctor of Sacred Theology from Christ Seminary-Seminex, St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to assuming the pastorate of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Webb previously pastored churches in Atlanta, Georgia, Cape Town, South Africa and Lusaka, Zambia. He has had the distinction of serving two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mr. Nelson Mandela. Some of his previous board memberships include The Council of Churches in Zambia, World Council of Churches and ACAC Federal Credit Union. Rev. Webb is a former member of the United States Marine Corps and presently a member of the Prince Hall Masons and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Ms. Phyllis F. Parker - Ms. Phyllis F. Parker, President and CEO of P. Felton Parker & Associates, a consulting group delivering comprehensive professional services in healthcare, education, human resources, and organizational management has been appointed to the NCP Community Development Federal Credit Union (NCP) board of directors. Ms. Parker’s diverse background and professional disciplines reflect over 20 years of experience in banking with NationsBank (predecessor of Bank of America) serving in retail management and at the corporate level as Vice President and Regional Manager. Ms. Parker has also held positions at Old Dominion University and Portsmouth Community Health Center, Inc. Ms. Parker’s community activities over the years include working with the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity projects, United Way and serving on the Board of Directors for RESPONSE Sexual Assault Support Services.
